Graduate Awards

CAMPUS WIDE AWARDS

Helen A. Mervis Award, awarded in loving memory of NOCCA Foundation board member Helen Mervis to a graduating NOCCA student who excels in his/her art and in academics, has been accepted to college or conservatory with a major in their arts discipline, and who actively participates in community service. 

Seth Daniel P Memorial Award, awarded in loving memory of Seth Daniel Poticha by Ron and Arlene Poticha to a NOCCA graduate for artistic achievement in more than one arts discipline.

New Orleans Rotary Club Scholarship, awarded to three Orleans Parish resident students who have demonstrated dedication to both their arts and academic studies, and have contributed to their communities.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Walker Robert Memorial Fund for Classical Instrumental Students, established by his parents to celebrate Walker’s passion for violin and help classical music students realize their dreams and talents while nourishing their souls and the world with the beauty of their music.

Moses Hogan Outstanding Graduate Award in Classical Instrumental Music in Memory of Willa Slater, established by the family of founding NOCCA Foundation board member Willa Slater and in memory of her friend, alumnus, classical pianist and Spirituals conductor Moses Hogan.

Blodie Entertainment Scholarship in Classical Music, awarded by Gregory Davis to an African American classical instrumental student in honor of their accomplishment and to advance their education.

CREATIVE WRITING

Kathy and Lee Randall Outstanding Graduate Award in Creative Writing, awarded to a graduating student for excellence in Creative Writing

Writing for Social Change, awarded to a graduating student who uses their skills and voice as a writer or poet to illuminate and effect social change.

CULINARY ARTS

The Emeril Lagasse Foundation Senior Award Presented in Partnership with The Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation, presented to an outstanding graduate in Culinary Arts.

Corey and David Rittvo Culinary Arts Award of Excellence, presented to an outstanding graduate in Culinary Arts.

Ingram Lee Foundation Scholarship in Culinary Arts, awarded for each of four years to advance the college and culinary education of an outstanding Culinary Arts graduate.

DANCE

Milly & George Denegre Outstanding Graduate Award in Dance.

Rose Jackson Moye Award for Excellence in Dance, presented to a dance student for dedication to craft and performance by the parents of the Greenwich Country Day School in honor of NOCCA dance alumna Rose Jackson Moye.

DRAMA

Kuumba-Keener Outstanding Graduate Award in Drama, awarded in memory of beloved Drama faculty members Elliot Keener and Sylvia Kuumba Williams.

Terri L. Bartlett Memorial Scholarship in Drama, awarded by Denise Germer in memory of Terri L. Bartlett.

MEDIA ARTS

Hurst and Helen Hill Memorial Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Video Production, presented by alumnus Christoph Andersson, Whitney and Hans Andersson in memory on filmmaker and Media Arts guest artist Helen Hill and for exceptional accomplishment in video production.

Hurst Recordings Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Audio Production, presented by alumnus Christoph Andersson for exceptional accomplishment in audio production.

JAZZ MUSIC

Make It Funky Outstanding Award Graduate Award in Jazz, established by filmmaker Michael Murphy to recognize outstanding accomplishment by a Jazz student.

Jelly Roll to Jam Scholarship in Jazz, presented by Ellen H. Golodner M.D. to a graduating student who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to and enthusiasm for the study of jazz. 

Blodie Entertainment Scholarship in Jazz, awarded by Gregory Davis to an African American classical instrumental student in honor of their accomplishment and to advance their education.

Joseph M. Simon Award in Jazz, established by the Joe W. and Dorothy D. Brown Foundation in memory of Jazz bassist Joseph M. Simon and awarded to a graduating student pursuing musical study and who exemplifies Mr. Simon’s professionalism, generosity and congeniality. 

JAZZ & MUSICAL THEATRE

ASCAP Foundation Louis Prima Award presented by Mrs. Gia Prima, awarded by the ASCAP Foundation and Prima Estate to a Jazz or Musical Theatre student selected for their excellence as a musician, vocalist or American Songbook vocalist.

Gia Maione Prima Foundation Award, awarded to the nominees for the ASCAP Foundation Louis Prima Award by the Gia Maione Prima Foundation.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Freda M. Lupin Outstanding Graduate Award in Musical Theatre, established by the late Dr. Ralph Lupin in memory of Freda M. Lupin and her love for students at NOCCA.

THEATRE DESIGN

Solomon Group Award in Theatre Design, awarded by alumnus Gary Solomon Jr. to a graduating senior who exemplifies exceptional dedication to all facets of theatre design and takes advantage of the broad opportunities at NOCCA to develop their skills.

Madalyn and Robert Schenk Outstanding Graduate Award in Theatre Design, awarded to a graduating senior for excellence in Theatre Design.

VISUAL ARTS

Lisa Marie Catalanello Memorial Award in Visual Arts, awarded in memory of alumna Lisa Marie Catalanello by her family to a Visual Arts graduate exemplifying generosity of spirit and visual arts achievement.

John August Otte Memorial Award in Visual Arts, awarded in memory of John August Otte by his family to a Visual Arts graduate for outstanding achievement in 3-d or installation art.

Daniel Price Memorial Fund for Aspiring Artists Scholarship, awarded in memory of alumnus and artist Daniel Price by Steve and Kathy Price/Price Family to a Visual Arts graduate for arts achievement, dedication to one’s arts education, and ongoing commitment to the New Orleans artistic community. 

Greg Friedler Award in Photography, awarded in memory of photographer Greg Friedler by Jerry and David Friedler to encourage pursuit of photography as a fine art.

Gia Maione Prima Foundation Award in Visual Arts, awarded to three visual arts students in memory of Gia Maione by the Gia Maione Prima Foundation.

The NOCCA Foundation Visual Arts Collection Award, presented to a graduating Visual Arts student through the acquisition of an artwork for the permanent collection of the Foundation and NOCCA.

VOCAL MUSIC

Glennadora & James H. Perry Outstanding Graduate Award in Vocal Music, presented by Sally Perry in loving memory of her parents.
