Some of New Orleans’ best classical and jazz musicians go head-to-head when
BRAHMS MEETS JAZZ
One night only: Saturday, September 12 at 7pm at NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street
On Saturday, September 12 at 7pm, some of New Orleans’ finest classical and jazz musicians join forces for an unforgettable, one-night-only performance: Brahms Meets Jazz. This very special crossover concert features faculty from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), members of the Faubourg Quartet, jazz violinist Max Grosch, and a host of other local musicians. The performance takes place at NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here. They may also be purchased at the door, pending availability.
Brahms Meets Jazz centers around the Piano Quintet in F Minor by Johannes Brahms, which is arranged for classical piano quintet and jazz quartet. As the classical and jazz musicians approach the composition from their own musical perspectives, they will ultimately merge and create a new, hybrid work that stands on its own. (This is accomplished without watering down any of the musical material or the original masterwork of the composer.) The evening’s program also includes outstanding works by Thelonious Monk and Victor Young.
Featured musicians for this performance include Joe Meyer (1st Violin, Faubourg Quartet), Zorica Dimova (2nd Violin, Faubourg Quartet), Dave Rebeck (Viola, Faubourg Quartet), Jee Yeoun Ko (Cello, Faubourg Quartet), Ji Sook Park (Piano), Max Grosch (Jazz Violin), Michael Pellera (Jazz Piano), Jesse Boyd (Bass), and John Wesley Jones, Jr. (Drum).
Brahms Meets Jazz takes place on Saturday, September 12 at 7:00pm at NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street. Tickets are $15 for the general public, and $10 for students with current ID. NOCCA students are admitted free, and NOCCA parents receive tickets at the $10 when accompanying their child. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here. They may also be purchased at the door, pending availability.
