The Big Easy Asian Concert To Benefit Relief Efforts In Japan

Join us in NOCCA’s intimate Nims Black Box Theatre on Monday, May 2 at 7:30pm as four outstanding classical musicians from across Asia join forces to support relief efforts in the wake of the recent Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that devastated northern Japan. The concert features:

  • Dr. Jee Yeoun Ko, cellist (Chair of Classical Dept at NOCCA and leader of the Faubourg Quartet)
  • Yuki Tanaka, violinist (Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra)
  • Xiao Fu, violinist (Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra)
  • Ji Sook Park, pianist (NOCCA Classical Music faculty and member of the Faubourg Quartet)

They’ll be joined onstage by the Faubourg Quartet, as well as some of New Orleans’ heralded jazz musicians, like NOCCA faculty members Michael Pellera (piano) and Doug Reneau (trumpet). A handful of very special guests will round out the performance.

The group’s repertoire will be as far-ranging as its talents, including the Mozart Violin Sonata, Beethoven Violin Sonata, Scriabin Piano Sonata, Cassado Solo Cello Suite, the Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso, Piazzolla’s “Four for Tango”, as well as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean folk songs.
