On January 6th, Twelfth Night opens at The NOCCA Institute’s 5 Press Gallery. Traditionally, Twelfth Night marks the beginning of the Carnival season, and appropriately, the work featured in this show explores themes related to celebration and excess. Several works are wearable art pieces originally created for Carnival walking krewes; other pieces present social critique while espousing the same playful or majestic spirit that is seen on the streets of New Orleans at Mardi Gras.
Artists featured in the Twelfth Night exhibition are NOCCA Visual Arts alumni Sam Crosby, Ariel Jackson, Bonnie Maygarden, Jacob Reptile, and Ashley Teamer. The show features mixed and new media, print, painting, and fiber works, including a selection of pieces created over the past few years as well as new artworks created specifically for this exhibition.
The opening party on January 6th includes Surprise Exquisite Corpse parlor games and King Cake. Costume or cocktail party attire is encouraged.
